PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE

It only takes one damaged battery to cause an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) system failure.  Routine maintenance ensures long term reliability for the equipment and prolongs the overall system health. Early detection of potential points of failure can eliminate costly system repairs and essential data loss.  Ion & Watts recommends annual, semi-annual and quarterly inspections of UPS systems.

Our inspection report includes:

  • measure and record battery voltage output

  • inspect batteries for damage or corrosion

  • measure overall temperature of unit and batteries

  • inspect overall cleanliness of unit and remove any dust accumulation

  • measure and record battery connection resistances and readings

  • provide written inspection report noting any deficiencies and outline corrective actions needed

We offer three inspection maintenance packages to accommodate various systems and budgets:

  • Annual (scheduled once/year)

  • Semi-Annual (scheduled twice/year)

  • Quarterly (scheduled four times/year)

We offers FREE initial local on-site evaluations for UPS systems located in the entire Chicago Metropolitan Area. (See Service Locations).

BATTERY REPLACEMENT

In addition to routine maintenance, Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) System batteries need to be replaced every 3-5 years.  All battery replacement serves are perform by trained service engineers in accordance to IEEE Standards.

Our Battery Replacement services include:

  • complete system battery replacement

  • battery removal

  • full performance inspection and testing

  • 24/7 emergency services

  • EPA approved battery recycling

CAPACITORS & FANS UPGRADE

In addition to battery health, monitoring the condition of the system capacitors is equally important. UPS systems use capacitor banks made of film that can degrade overtime, affecting their ability to handle voltage and pressure changes. This wear can ultimately lead to down time. Ion & Watts service engineers will include a capacitor evaluation in your inspection report and make any upgrade recommendations.

UPS system fans play an essential role in cooling mechanical components throughout the system. Although UPS system fans last 5-7 years under perfect environmental conditions, it is important to monitor their performance and condition routinely.  The larger the UPS system, the more cooling fans are required.  These fans operate in high temperature environments, causing the mechanical grease to dissipate overtime. This can lead to the fans creating additional heat to operate, putting your system at risk. Ion & Watts service engineers will also include a fan evaluation in your inspection report and make any upgrade recommendations.

Ion & Watts recommends completely replacing system capacitors and fans at the same time since they have a similar lifespan.

As an environmentally-responsible business, Ion & Watts Power Solutions LLC advocates for proper disposal and recycling of decommissioned UPS systems and the system batteries.

UPS batteries contain hazardous materials and cannot be disposed in building trash collection bins. We guarantee proper removal and disposal of UPS system batteries in accordance with state law requirements and regulations.

SYSTEM  INSTALLATION

When its time to replace or upgrade your UPS system, Ion & Watts has the capability to de-commission, safely remove and install new UPS systems.  Once installed, Ion & Watts service engineers will provide guidelines and safe practices to operate your new system, according to the manufacturer’s standards.
